Most brides have been dreaming about their wedding day ever since they were little girls. For them, this special day is not only about a celebration of love, it’s also the culmination of their years of secretly planning their big day.
If you are one of them, the moment they said, “I do” you were probably already thinking about the dress and planning the color of the flowers. It’s no secret that there’s no time to waste when you’re planning a wedding.
Congratulations!
With an engagement to enjoy and a wedding to plan you are going to be very busy over the next few months. You’re in for an interesting ride, so sit back and enjoy ever minute of it, you only get one wedding so make the most of every fun wedding planning moment.
Your wedding is your special day. You get to celebrate your love and share the meaningful experience with your family and friends. Wedding traditions are wonderful, but every couple is unique and you can make your wedding day even more special by celebrating your uniqueness, which is sure to make the day more memorable for all.
When it comes to weddings it’s all in the details; the picture-perfect venue, the exquisite wedding cake, the treasured invitation, the fun first dance….So, all you really have to do to make an impression is go big with one (or more) of the little things and you can be sure that your guests will be talking about your wedding for years to come.
Here are a few ways that you can make sure that your wedding is fun and unforgettable for everyone.

Traditions
Your wedding is the perfect opportunity to honor your and your future husband’s families. If members of your families are from a different ethnicity to where you live why not incorporate some of their wedding customs and traditions into your wedding day? For example, incorporate traditional wedding garb, food, décor or even a dance into your plans - all a nod to your family’s heritage. And, don’t forget that you have the perfect opportunity to start a new family tradition of your own on your wedding day.
If you are inviting guests that speak a different language to yours don’t forget to have at least one speech in their language. They won’t forget the wedding where the bride and groom thanked them for coming to celebrate with them – in their first language!

Take the cake
Of all the wedding traditions the wedding cake is the sweetest. It dates back to Ancient Roman times where wheat or barley cakes were broken over the bride’s head to bring good luck to the newly weds.
The tradition evolved and later it was generally considered the larger the wedding cake the higher the social standing of the couple.
Traditional tall layered wedding cakes can be quite beautiful, but not all wedding cakes have to be equal. Use your cake to “show and tell”; work with your baker to have a cake that reflects your unique style and personalities. Maybe even use it as a background to tell the story of how you met.
Contemporary wedding cakes are not all about round layers and flowers anymore, in fact anything goes. Some of the most memorable wedding cakes I’ve seen weren’t even cakes – think yummy, romantic looking, cookie or donut towers.
Don’t forget to get your own personalized 3D wedding cake topper printed especially for you. I have a feeling your guests will enjoy an unusual wedding cake and it will give them a story to tell.

Go High-Tech
Add some technology to your wedding plans (I’m talking more than just that Excel sheet you’re using to plan your budget). You can easily make a wedding website using a free website building site. It doesn’t have to be more than one page, but you can put all the important wedding information on the site. Put the URL on your wedding invitations with a note mentioning that all important wedding information will be on your site.
Your site can also be very helpful for out of town wedding guests because you can add information about the location, your favorite haunts, and anything else you think they might want to know. Don’t forget to ask your guest to RSVP on your wedding website.
You might also want to ask your guests who are planning on putting their pics on Instagram to use a special wedding tag so they can be enjoyed by your other guests too. Or, you can use a special photo app where your guests can share their pics.
Don’t forget to upload the professional photos of the wedding to your site later, so your guests can enjoy them too!
Fun & Games
Weddings are fun, but not everyone is a dancer, so make a quiet lounge area where people can sit and chat with friends and family who are not at their table.
A games area can be fun for guests too! If you’re having an outdoor wedding lawn games like giant jenga, ring toss, corn hole, twister or other favorites can add some extra fun to the day.

Make it kid friendly
Many brides let their friends know that their kids are not welcome because they think that the little ones will ruin their special day.
Yes, some kids might get cranky but for the most part having your family and friends’ children there will make the day all the more special. Your friends won’t have to leave early to relieve the babysitter and they will be totally present at your wedding, because they won’t be thinking about their kids being left with a babysitter they don’t really know.
You will enjoy the sweetness of having them there and just think about it - doesn’t having kids in your wedding pictures just make them even more interesting? And, in the future when your friend talks fondly of her memories of your wedding and especially that they got to share that day with their son, you’ll feel really good that you made the decision to invite the kids.
Yes, it will take a little planning, but it won’t take up much of your budget. Get a sitter to take care of the kiddies while their parents are busy partying. Each small guest can get a surprise bag full of fun things (coloring pages, crayons, and other small toys) to keep them occupied during the wedding, have a small games corner for them and everyone will be happy.
Theme weddings
Personalize your wedding by making it a theme wedding; this doesn’t only have to include the color of the décor.
Use your wedding theme to tell your story. Perhaps base your theme on where (the beach) or when (the 90s) you met, or on your joint hobbies and interests, (Harry Potter wedding, anyone?)
Weddings don’t have to be those stuffy, three-piece suit, sit down, chicken or fish occasions any more. Today anything goes!
One of the most fun and memorable weddings I’ve attended was of a capoeira master, after a bit of regular dancing the whole dance floor became a capoeira festival!
And, we’ve all seen some fantastic surprise choreographed daddy-daughter or first wedding dances on YouTube. It’s your special day so make sure you do whatever floats your boat.

Plan For Perfection
Weddings involve a lot of planning and the sooner you get onto it the better.
The most important part of planning your wedding is planning for it to be fun.
Wedding days go by so fast, and we’ve all heard brides telling stories of not having enough time to enjoy themselves. It’s your special day so make sure you enjoy every moment of it!
Start planning your wedding early or find a wedding planner who will make all your dreams come true and make sure you are on the same page.
Don’t forget that weddings involve numerous small details so there are lots of things that can be forgotten or go wrong on the day, so take a deep breath and as long as your family and friends all received their invitations and have made it there, don’t let the small things ruin your big day!
There is much to consider when getting married, it can be quite overwhelming. Your article is a great place for any newly engaged bride to start!
